What to expect of the assessment process:
After an initial phone or email consultation with Dr. Damon-Minow to determine the needs of the evaluation, three appointments will be scheduled:
1
A one-hour intake session (in person or via telehealth).
During this session, Dr. Damon-Minow will obtain important information on patient history. She will also provide you with more detailed information about the specific needs of your case and exactly what to expect during the in-person session.
2
An in-person evaluation session.
The length of this session will vary based on several factors, including the age of the patient, the specific diagnostic questions, etc. Dr. Damon-Minow will provide an estimate of the likely time-frame and more specifics about what to expect of this testing session during the intake appointment.
3
An hour-long feedback session (in person or via telehealth).
In this final session, Dr. Damon-Minow will explain the results of the assessments, clarify and provide education about any diagnoses, and explain a comprehensive plan of treatment moving forward. 1 - 2 weeks after this session you will receive a full written report of the findings.
Following completion of the evaluation, New Heights Neuropsychology offers additional protected time during which you may request an additional scheduled half hour of time with Dr. Damon-Minow for no additional fee. This is a time to address any remaining questions you may have or seek additional support.
FAQs
Will I get a report once the evaluation is complete?
Yes! A comprehensive written report detailing the findings and treatment recommendations of the evaluation will be provided to you within 1-2 weeks of the feedback session.
What if I need more help?
After completion of the evaluation, you may use 30 minutes of supplementary protected time to ask Dr. Damon-Minow any additional questions or to otherwise gain support for 6 months after the feedback session date (cost included in the price of the evaluation).
Additionally, Dr. Damon-Minow may be available after completion of the evaluation to assist in other ways (e.g., behavior consults), for additional fees.
Why don’t you take insurance?
Health insurances often restrict the types of evaluation that can be done and how many hours can be devoted to those evaluations. They do not cover portions of the evaluation that may be important (e.g., consulting with other providers) and many will only reimburse for a brief report, rather than an extensive, detailed report that is vital for parents and providers moving forward. Additionally, reimbursement rates are low and reimbursement can be difficult to obtain. Evaluations completed through New Heights Neuropsychology will not be limited by arbitrary insurance regulations and will always be guided by best practices in the field of Neuropsychology.
